Full course description
In this online course, Dr. Keith Mathison examines the nature, method, and sources of theology. We cannot be good theologians unless we understand what good theology is. Dr. Mathison explores God's general and special revelation, focusing on the inspiration and authority of Holy Scripture. Through this exploration, you will discover how Scripture grounds our doctrine and how our doctrine, in turn, informs our reading of Scripture.
Throughout this course, you will learn about:
- Analyzing different theological methods and the ways in which methodology can and does impact the content of theological systems.
- The relation between philosophy and theology and the ways in which a theologian’s underlying philosophical assumptions shape his or her theology.
- The late medieval ecclesio-sacerdotal soteriological system of Roman Catholicism with a goal toward understanding exactly what Reformed theology re-formed in the sixteenth century and why such theological reformation was necessary.
- The confessional Reformed understanding of the canon, inspiration, and attributes of Holy Scripture.
